Process Mining for IS Project Success Factors Management: A proposal

    Get PDF
Research on Success Factors (SF) of Information Systems (IS) projects carried out over the last decades has resulted in a vast literature. However, extant studies typically aim to identify and list generic SF for projects, denoting a static perspective, with few concerns of practical nature regarding their use as management tools to support decisions throughout the projects’ lifecycle. On the other hand, process mining has been used to discover, analyze, and improve project management processes. In this paper, we propose a new approach that involves relating the performance of those processes with SF in IS projects. By using process mining, the aim is to automatically extract and manage SF in projects, measure processes performance, and provide project managers with information on how SF correlate with performance. This will provide managers with enhanced information regarding status and improvement opportunities for current and future projects. The main purpose is to contribute to the project management theory and practice by providing a decision support system that can associate performance with IS projects’ SF automatically obtained from internal and external data sources

Tecnica simples de marcacao externa de reprodutores de tilapia nilotica (Oreochromis niloticus)

With the goal of organizing a control program of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) reproduction in laboratory, a tecnique with ceramic pearls held on dorsal musculature by transfixion with flexible sintetic string was developed. Sixty fishes with 12g average weight and 60 with 19g average weight were used. Marking was done on three positions: frontal (F), median (M), and caudal (C). Different combinations of three collored pearls were fixed on the right side (defining number), and were linked to only one pearl in the left side (defining sex), with a slack of about 1.5cm to prevent growth damage. The animals were individually identified and weigthed at 30, 60 and 130 days after surgery. Results showed that both F and M positions allowed normal growth and reproductive behavior, whereas the C position induced mortality and loss of marker in some specimens. The M position is recomended as the best, or the intermediate between F and M positions

    Get PDF

Cellulose-based edible films for probiotic entrapment

    Get PDF
Encapsulation with edible films is a promising approach that may solve the disadvantages associated with the use of bioactive compounds as food additives. This is particularly relevant in the case of probiotics, since their stability in food matrices and in the gastrointestinal tract may be rather poor. Therefore, new cellulose-based edible films have been successfully developed and characterized. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) were used for the film preparation and cross-linked with citric acid (CA) under reasonably mild conditions. Model probiotic bacteria (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG) were incorporated in the films either during the film formation and casting or after the film synthesis, via bacteria diffusion and adsorption. The later approach could efficiently entrap and preserve viable bacteria. The mechanical properties and swelling ability could be tuned by varying the HEC/CMC ratio and the amount of CA. Moreover, the surface area and total pore volume of the films considerably decreased after cross-linking. Overall, these novel films are regarded as promising inexpensive and friendly matrices for food protection and packaging applications.People Program (Marie Curie Actions) of the European Union's Seventh Framework Program FP7/2007-2013/under REAEuropean Union (EU) [606713 BIBAFOODS]Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology [PTDC/AGR-TEC/4814/2014, IF/01005/2014]FCTPortuguese Foundation for Science and Technology [PEstOE/QUI/UI0313/2013

Calcium partially relieves the deleterius effects of hypoxia on a maize cultivar selected for waterlogging tolerance

Low soil oxygen concentrations due to waterlogging or transient flooding severely reduce maize production. However, genotypes with tolerance or even resistance to hypoxia develop morphological and biochemical adaptation mechanisms which may prove to be useful criteria for the selection and breeding of new improved genotypes. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of levels and modes of application of calcium sources on biomass yield, the contents of total soluble sugars and reduced sugars and on the activities of invertase isoforms and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase, in a maize variety (BRS 4154) derived from the 14th selection cycle for tolerance to transient soil flooding conditions, when cultivated under waterlogging conditions. The study was carried out in a greenhouse, utilizing 20 kg pots, filled with a lowland soil. The effects of two sources of calcium (CaCl2 , 300 kg ha-1 and CaSO4 , 500 and 1.500 kg ha-1) and three modes of application (applied 8 cm below surface, mixed with the whole soil volume and surface application) were tested in soils kept at field capacity and waterlogged after plants reached growth stage V6. Above ground biomass yield, the contents of total soluble sugars and reducing sugars and the activities of the neutral citosol (INC), acid vacuolar (IAV), acid cell wall invertases and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase were determined at the onset of flowering. Calcium application partially relieved the deleterious effect of waterlogging on biomass yield and the activities of INC, IAPC and PEPcase.Maíz-Zea may
